About K & B Training Institute

The K & B Training Institute began as the K & B Training Center in September 2017.  Our
original charter was to “educate those interested in becoming nurse aides, and progressing to
licensed practical/vocational nurses, and registered nurses to help relieve the nursing
shortage”.  The K & B Training Institute is growing and developing to accommodate society

growth particularly the advancement of the healthcare industry.  

With the addition of EKG Technician, Pharmacy Technician and Phlebotomy Technician
programs, the school is supporting the El Paso growing community to meet the need for health

care providers.

Dear Prospective Student,

Welcome to the K & B Training Institute!  We have a passion for creating success stories and have been helping our students create successful careers since inception.  
We are entering an exciting time in our school's history as we expand to add more adult career programs to our existing EKG Technician, Nurse Aide, Pharmacy Technician and Phlebotomy Technician programs.  With small class sizes, outstanding instructors, state-of-the-art facilities and a convenient location in El Paso why not start your new career at K & B Training Institute?

  • Students must have and provide copy of High School Diploma/GED

EKG TECHNICIAN

Be an EKG Tech

EKG Technicians who complete their training from K & B Training Institute will learn how to monitor and test a patient’s cardiovascular performance using the EKG equipment within a hospital setting, while also learning the anatomy and physiology of the heart and the terminology needed as an EKG technician.  The purpose of this program is to prepare the student for an entry-level position as an EKG Technician. The program provides competency in the ability to conduct tests on pulmonary or cardiovascular systems of patients for diagnostic purposes. EKG technicians may conduct or assist in electrocardiograms, cardiac catheterizations, pulmonary functions, lung capacity, and similar tests. Program graduates will be eligible to obtain an EKG Technician certification, upon successfully passing the applicable certification examination. Graduates will be qualified for employment at hospitals, clinics or at any health care institution under the supervision of a licensed healthcare provider. The college awards a certificate upon completion of this program. 


EKG Technician program can be completed in 8 weeks

COMPETENCIES OF EKG TECHNICIAN PROGRAM

The content of the program is designed to provide the student with knowledge of:

  • Know and understand heart and EKG Terminology

  • Know and label the structure of the heart.

  • Know and understand circulation of the blood within the heart.

  • Know and understand the cardiac conduction system.

  • Know why an EKG is done.

  • Know the 12 leads of an EKG, their placement and what they represent.

  • Know a 3 lead EKG and their placement.

  • Know a 5 lead EKG and their placement.

  • Identify and spot common artifacts on an EKG.

  • Be able to prep a patient for an EKG and run it accurately.

  • Recognize the cardiac cycle and how it relates to an EKG.

  • Successfully meet AHA criteria for certification in CPR.

  • Describe behaviors for job success.

  • Be able to calculate a patient's heart rate from EKG tracing.

  • Discuss the waveforms of a cardiac cycle and identify symmetry, direction, and amplitude.

  • Identify the major classifications of arrhythmias

  • Identify major variances om waveforms

  • Be able to obtain patient vital sign

Nurse Aide

Be a Nurse Aide

The nurse aide program is a comprehensive course designed to
teach students the skills, abilities and essential basic care to
patients and residents in hospitals and long-term care facilities.
Graduates of this program will be able to communicate and
interact effectively with patients in attaining and maintaining

maximum functional independence, while observing patient
rights. They will also learn how to perform infection control
measures. Additionally, they will be able to apply proper body
mechanics in bed making, lifting, and turning patients.
Graduates of this program may find entry level employment as
a nurse aide with hospitals and nursing homes.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • Students must provide a copy of their birth certificate, ID, and SS card.

  • Must have proof of HS Diploma/ GED.  Exception for Nurse Aide program – verification of 8th grade education level.

  • The student cannot be listed as unemployable on the Employee Misconduct Registry (EMR) and cannot have been convicted of a criminal offense as listed in the Texas Health and Safety Code 250.006.

  • If student is unable to provide proof of 8th grade completion, they will be required to take The Wonderlic Basic Skills Test™. They must achieve a minimal score of 70% on the Verbal Skills and 70% on the Quantitative Skills.

Pharmacy Technician

Be a Pharm Tech

The Pharmacy Technician program at K & B Training Institute is designed to provide students with the technical knowledge and practical skills necessary for an entry-level position in retail, wholesale, hospital, or home health pharmacy settings, or in a prior authorization department, compounding lab and other positions related to the manufacturing, distribution or support of pharmacy products.  Pharmacy Technician students learn pharmacy law, basic chemistry, pharmacology, dosage calculations, inpatient pharmacy procedures, and retail pharmacy procedures. Major emphasis is placed on learning the trade and generic names of selected drugs, drug classifications, and indications, routes of administration, side effects, dosages, and storage requirements. Pharmaceutical preparation skills including filling prescriptions, unit dose drug distribution system, and preparation of sterile products are introduced, explained, and practiced. Students learn pharmaceutical and medical terminology including abbreviations and symbols used in prescribing, dispensing and charting. Basic anatomy and related pathological conditions are introduced

Phlebotomy Technician

                            

Be a Phlebotomy Tech

With the Phlebotomy Technician course at K & B Training Institute, students will learn specific techniques on how to draw quality blood samples from patients and how to carefully prepare the specimens for medical testing. Students will also learn how to handle the equipment and meet the safety standards required of a Phlebotomy Tech. Students who finish our course will have opportunities to work in various settings: Clinical Laboratories, Hospitals, Community Health Centers, Nursing Homes, Doctor's Offices, and other Healthcare Facilities.
Students trained at the K & B Training Center will be able draw blood from patients and donors, evaluate patients’ ability to withstand procedure, explain Blood-drawing procedure to patients and answer questions, perform basic point of care testing, such as blood glucose levels, prepare blood, urine and other specimens for testing, verify patient donor identity and maintain medical equipment such needles, test tubes and blood vials
